Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if Sport and Remedial Massage Therapy (SMRT) will help with my ache, pain or injury?

If your complaint is soft tissue related (muscle or connective tissue), then SMRT will often be of great benefit. These complaints can be caused by a number of things, from overuse and over-training to poor mechanics and posture. I will take a full history and may carry out a number of assessments to work out the best form of treatment for your needs. If you're not sure what's causing your pain, please feel free to get in touch to discuss.

I don't have a specific injury but want to incorporate Sports Massage into my training. What would you recommend?

This depends largely on the type and frequency of your training, and your individual goals. Often massage will identify areas of tension you didn't realise were there, and we will work to improve these areas and ultimately benefit your training and performance. If you are training regularly or preparing for an event, it may be worthwhile to have more regular massage, possibly every week or fortnightly, to keep your soft tissue in peak condition. If your training is not so intense, once every 3-6 weeks may be more suitable for you. It is ultimately completely your decision and you can decide what works best for your own body and of course what you can afford.

What if I only want one massage?

That's absolutely fine! I may recommend more if I notice a specific issue but it is always completely your decision as to how many treatments you have.

What should I wear?

The most important thing is that you feel comfortable throughout your massage, and during the treatment you will always be covered with a towel to retain your modesty. Generally shorts or underwear is ideal, as it's always preferable to massage directly on skin, but there are techniques that can be used through clothing should you be more comfortable with that.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes, a 24 hour cancellation policy applies - if you cancel or reschedule within 24 hours of your appointment, the full fee will need to be paid.
